Artist Statement
Creativity can feel like water—shifting, elusive, slipping away just when you think you’ve captured it. In these pieces, I explored how water intertwines movement, light, and depth. I was drawn to fleeting reflections—appearing and disappearing in an instant, much like creative ideas that come and go.
While working on this collection, I kept returning to the idea of weaving—not just as a textile process but as a way of seeing and creating. Like Ikat, where the pattern is set in motion before the weaving begins, these paintings became a balance of intention and unpredictability. Each brushstroke felt like a thread, pulling together the elemental qualities of water and atmosphere.
At times, the process was just as elusive as the mirage-like places I hoped to evoke. Moments of structure gave way to spontaneity—edges blurring like mist over the horizon, colors blending in unexpected ways, much like dyed threads revealing their true nature only in the final weave. In embracing this uncertainty, I found that the most poetic and compelling moments came from what couldn’t be planned.
